Speaker Build
The result of my senior thesis project, these bookshelf speakers experiment with material usage and form to create highly functional pieces of art. My goal in designing this sound system was to craft a one-of-a-kind device that delivers exceptional sound quality while also elevating the ambiance of any room it occupies. To do so, I selected materials that are versatile in form and style, as well as non-porous to maximize sound quality. The resulting product is a funky, elegant, and powerful take on the traditional boxed speaker.

Concrete shell with pine features
Two-way system
Removable horn and grill
Customizable grill cover
Concrete, a non-traditional speaker material, creates a steady presence and powerful sound that floods the room. Accessories are flush and joints are hidden, while the legs and tweeter horns are removable for safe transportation or replacement, and the wood facade is magnetic for easy maintenance access.
Portholes adjacent to the main grill were added to increase sound quality and bass response. The engravings on the sides of the horns follow a curved motif that is present throughout the speaker and inspired by the gramophone. While essential to the aesthetic of the speaker, these slits also allow the bending of the wood to form.
